- Hamburg / Germany : When a seaplane crashes four occupants die, the pilot and another tourist can be rescued. The pilot succumbs to his injuries the next day. The cause of the accident is unknown.

- Valencia / Spain : According to radio reports, at least 41 people die in a metro accident in the city.
Tuesday 4th July 2006
- Cape Canaveral / United States : The Space Shuttle Discovery will start on the STS-121 mission at 6.37 p.m. Coordinated Universal Time for the International Space Station .

- Skopje / Macedonia : The opposition alliance “For a better Macedonia” wins the parliamentary elections. Only a little more than half of those entitled to vote exercise their right to vote and bring about the end of the government under Vlado Bučkovski from the Social Democratic League of Macedonia .

- Sikkim / India , Tibet / China : At an altitude of 4545 m , the closure of the Nathu La mountain pass in the Himalayas , which was part of the traditional Silk Road , is lifted. The importance of the border opening between the Indian state of Sikkim and the Chinese autonomous region of Tibet is underlined by a long red carpet. - London / United Kingdom : The French Amélie Mauresmo wins the women's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships in tennis against Justine Henin from Belgium .

- Berlin / Germany : Italy wins the 2006 World Cup final 6: 4 on penalties against France and is thus world champion for the fourth time.
- London / United Kingdom : Defending champion Roger Federer from Switzerland wins the men's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships by beating Rafael Nadal from Spain in four sets. It is Federer's fourth tournament victory in the last four years.
- Siberia / Russia : Almost 140 people were killed in the crash landing of a Russian passenger plane in Siberia on Sunday. Among the dead are many children who were on their way to a vacation at Lake Baikal.

- Panama City / Panama : Panama is the last country in North and Central America to declare the New World screwworm fly extinct. The penetration of the fly into the body can have life-threatening consequences for humans . It is still native to South America .

The clubs Juventus Turin , Lazio Rome and Fiorentina are downgraded to the second division, Turin denied the last two championship titles. AC Milan remains in Serie A , but will not be allowed to participate in the Champions League next season .
- Sofia / Bulgaria : The discovery of a large Roman amphitheater is published in Sofia .
