- German-speaking countries : For the second time since 2004, changes to the German spelling reform come into force as a revision of the 1996 reform of German spelling . It is now more difficult than ever to use the wrong comma .
- El Paso / United States : The city in the US state of Texas is hit by extremely heavy rainfall , which leads to the worst flooding of the Rio Grande in almost 50 years.
