  • Natanz / Iran : Despite the deadline set by the International Atomic Energy Agency until the end of April , Iran starts enriching uranium in 164 centrifuges at the Natanz nuclear facility . As proposed in March , the UN Security Council is expected to discuss the new situation and possible sanctions.
  • Rome / Italy : The vote count of the parliamentary elections has been completed and has resulted in a 0.1% surplus of Romano Prodi's left-wing alliance . For these 25,000 votes it receives the newly introduced “ winner's bonus ” and therefore 54% of the mandates . In the Senate, the "Unione" is expected to have a majority of 2 votes. Prime Minister Berlusconi speaks of electoral fraud (five boxes with valid ballot papers were found in garbage containers in Rome) and is convinced that the election result will change in his favor. According to the central election commission , the 1.1 million foreign ballots are correct, but 82,000 invalid ballots are checked to see whether they can be assigned to one of the 2 camps.

  • Anatolia / Turkey : Since the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), classified as a terrorist group, terminated its unilateral ceasefire in 2004, there have been frequent fighting, which intensified at the end of March when 14 PKK fighters were shot near Diyarbakir and led to a riot among the Kurds . 20-30 civilians have been killed in the last 3 weeks; Against the mass rallies, Turkish tanks are again patrolling through the Kurdish cities in southeastern Anatolia. The unrest is spreading to Istanbul and Izmir , where millions of Kurds also live.

Turkish nationalism has been gaining support since the accession negotiations began in October 2005 .   • N'Djamena / Chad : In the North African state, rebels attack the capital N'Djamena, but are repulsed by government troops. According to President Idriss Déby (Radio France Internationale) the situation is "under control" and the fighters of the FUC (United Front for Change) have been wiped out. The FUC wants to overthrow the president, who has been in power since his 1990 coup . According to humanitarian organizations, there are also fighting 800 kilometers east in Adre , a city on the border with Sudan . The 1,200 French soldiers are on alert; Helicopters and Mirage F1 fighter jets fly over the capital. France (still) supports the Chadian President; yesterday another 150 soldiers from Gabon arrived to reinforce N'Djamena.
  • Tehran / Iran : In the nuclear dispute , the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohammed el-Baradei seeks talks with the Iranian government. After the meeting with chief negotiator Ali Larijani , others with ministers and Vice President Gholam-Resa Aghasadeh are planned. President Ahmadineschad is in Khorassan in the north-west of the republic, but lets the Fars news agency spread that Iran prefers negotiations, but will never give up the uranium enrichment started yesterday. This is exactly what the IAEA is calling for, and now the UN Security Council as well , which assumes that Iran's government wants to develop atomic bombs under the guise of civilian nuclear energy .
