Cologne marathon

The Cologne Marathon is the fifth largest marathon in Germany. It has been taking place in Cologne since 1997 at the beginning of October (2004, 2005 and 2014 in September). A marathon for inline skaters has been part of the program from the start, and since 1998 a marathon for hand bikers has also been part of the program . Both were deleted after 2013. In 2006 the half marathon was introduced.
After a long section along the banks of the Rhine, the route leads through the city center in a star shape on a flat circuit. Between 2004 and 2012 the finish area was in Cologne-Deutz , which has been right next to Cologne Cathedral since 2013 . In 2011, 2012 and 2013, the route was modified to make the run faster, which was also achieved with the new course records in 2012. The time measurement at the Cologne Marathon has been carried out with the raceresult passive system since 2018 .
In addition to its sporting importance, the Cologne Marathon has also established itself as a social event and is known for the good atmosphere both in the starting field and on the roadside.
