Territorial division of Saxony

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The territorial division of electoral Saxony included until 1806 seven administrative districts and various secular and sacred territorial rule. Since 1527 the Electorate of Saxony was administratively divided into four districts , which were subdivided into associated offices in order to enable better administrative control. In the course of the Schmalkaldic War (1546–1547), a reorganization of Saxony was decided in the Naumburg Treaty in 1553 . A new division of the entire electorate into seven districts took place.

This article lists these seven Saxon districts and offices as well as all other areas under Wettin rule as of 1806, before the rise of the Kingdom of Saxony .
