The list of modern buildings in Salzburg provides an overview of representative buildings from the modern age from the beginning of the interwar period, including postmodern and contemporary trends, in the city of Salzburg .

On the modern in Salzburg

Salzburg's inner city has been protected by a state law since 1967, the Old Town Conservation Act, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site ( Historic Center of the City of Salzburg ) since 1996 , especially for the sake of its dominant baroque cityscape, which also includes numerous examples from the Romanesque to the Belle Epoque are represented. This architectural appearance as a “city of Mozart” belongs to the core of the tourist destination profile , consequently Salzburg's architecture is considered to be thoroughly conservative. With the exception of the festival halls as lead buildings, modernity can be found primarily in the outskirts of the city, but partly also in the buffer zone of the UNESCO protected area.
In 1983, initiated by City Councilor Johannes Voggenhuber , an architectural reform towards contemporary building began after Salzburg had grown uncontrollably in urban planning due to the housing shortage of the post-war period. Only in the course of the 2000s did the younger modern find its way into the old town.

Projects within the protection zone are assessed by the Expert Commission on the Old Town Conservation Act together with ICOMOS for UNESCO, major projects outside the city's design advisory board .
