Morelos is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . The municipality had 28,426 inhabitants at the 2010 census, its area amounts to 236.5 km².

The administrative seat of the municipality is San Bartolo Morelos .

geography

Morelos is located in the central northwest of the state of México at an altitude of about 2700  m to 3360  m . The municipality consists of two unconnected parts, on the one hand a larger, northern part around the main town and on the other hand a part around the town of San Lorenzo Malacota further south. Agricultural areas dominate in the municipality, a good quarter of the municipality is forested.

The Municipio Morelos borders the Municipios Villa del Carbón , Municipio Chapa de Mota , Atlacomulco , Timilpan , Jiquipilco and Jocotitlán .

There are 45 localities in the municipality, six of which have more than 1,500 inhabitants. The largest town is Santa Clara de Juárez with 3,878 inhabitants, followed by Barrio Cuarto , San Lorenzo Malacota, San Sebastián Buenos Aires and San Marcos Tlazalpan . The administrative seat of San Bartolo Morelos is only the sixth largest in the municipality with 1,737 inhabitants.
