Axapusco is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México , the metropolitan region around Mexico City . The seat of the municipality is the eponymous Axapusco , while the largest places in the municipality are Jaltepec and Santa María Aticpac . The community had 25,559 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 232.1 km² .

geography

Axapusco is located in the north of the state of México, about 50 km northeast of Mexico City.

The municipality borders the municipalities Temascalapa , Nopaltepec , Otumba and San Martín de las Pirámides as well as the state of Hidalgo .
