Chimalhuacán is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México , the metropolitan region around Mexico City . The seat of the community and by far the largest settlement is the Chimalhuacán of the same name .

The municipality had 614,453 inhabitants at the 2010 census, the area amounts to 43.71 km².

Chimalhuacán is located in the eastern part of the state of México, not far from the border of the federal district.

The municipality borders on the municipalities Texcoco , Chicoloapan , La Paz and Nezahualcóyotl .
