Ocoyoacac is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de Toluca , the metropolitan area around Toluca de Lerdo . The administrative seat of the municipality and its largest town is Ocoyoacac of the same name .

In 2010 the municipality had 61,805 inhabitants and its area is 136.5 km² . Parts of the National Park Insurgente Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (also called La Marquesa ) are located in the Ocoyoacac area .

geography

The municipality of Ocoyoacac is located in the western part of the state of México at an altitude of up to 2850  m . About 46% of the municipality's area is used for agriculture, especially for growing maize ; a good 40% are forested.

The municipality borders on the municipalities Lerma , Huixquilucan , Xalatlaco , Tianguistenco and Capulhuac as well as the federal district of Mexico City .

The municipality of Ocoyoacac comprises 35 places, five of which have at least 2,500 inhabitants, a further eleven places have at least 500 inhabitants. The largest places in the municipality are Ocoyoacac , San Pedro Cholula , San Jerónimo Acazulco , El Pedregal de Guadalupe Hidalgo and San Pedro Atlapulco .
