Chiautla is a municipality in the Mexican state of México ; it belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México , the metropolitan region around Mexico City . The administrative seat and largest place in the municipality is the Chiautla of the same name , other larger places are Santiago Chimalpa , Ocopulco , Tepetitlán and San Lucas Huitzilhuacán .

The municipality had 26,191 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 20.7  km² .

Chiautla is located in the east of the state of Mexico, about 5 km north of Texcoco de Mora .

The Municipio Chiautla borders the Municipios Tezoyuca , Acolman , Tepelaoxtoc , Papalotla , Texcoco , Chiconcuac and Atenco .
