Ecatzingo is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México , the metropolitan region around Mexico City .

The seat of the municipality and its largest town is Ecatzingo de Hidalgo , other larger towns are San Juan Tlacotompa and San Marcos Tecomaxusco . The municipality had 9,369 inhabitants in 2010, the area of ​​the municipality amounts to 50.8 km².

Ecatzingo de Hidalgo is located in the extreme southeast of the state of México, about 60 km southeast of the center of Mexico City, about 50 km east of Cuernavaca and about 10 km southwest of Popocatépetl .

The municipality borders on Atlautla to the north and west and the state of Morelos to the east and south .
