Calimaya is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de Toluca , the metropolitan area around Toluca de Lerdo .

The seat of the municipality and largest place in the municipality is Calimaya de Díaz with about 11,000 inhabitants; other places in the municipality with more than 5,000 inhabitants are Santa María Nativitas , Zaragoza de Guadalupe and San Andrés Ocotlán . The population of the municipality was 47,033 at the 2010 census, the area of ​​the municipality amounts to 102.3 km².

Calimaya is centrally located in the eastern part of the state of México, about 15 km south of Toluca de Lerdo .

The municipality borders on the municipalities Toluca , Metepec , Mexicaltzingo , Chapultepec , Tianguistenco , San Antonio la Isla , Rayón and Tenango del Valle .
