Melchor Ocampo is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México , the metropolitan region around Mexico City . The municipality had 50,240 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 17.9  km² .

Administrative headquarters and largest of the nine villages in the municipality of the same name, also known as San Miguel Tlaxomulco known Melchor Ocampo . Other larger settlements in the municipality are Colonia 2 de Septiembre , San Francisco Tenopalco and Lomas de Tenopalco .

Melchor Ocampo is located about 20 km north of the city limits of Mexico City at an altitude of about 2260  m .

The municipality of Melchor Ocampo borders the municipalities of Cuautitlán , Teoloyucan , Nextlalpan and Tultepec .
