Almoloya del Río is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the Almoloya del Río of the same name . The municipality had 10,886 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 16.654 km² .

Almoloya del Río is centrally located in the state of México, 20 km southeast of Toluca de Lerdo .

The municipality of Almoloya del Río borders the municipalities of San Antonio la Isla , Atizapán , Tianguistenco , Texcalyacac and Rayón .
