Schöps is a municipality in the south of the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

geography

The community is located in the Saale valley about 10 km south of Jena at an altitude of about 170 meters. The district of Schöps is to the left of the Saale and the district of Jägersdorf is to the right of the Saale. To the east of Schöps lies the Thuringian woodland , to the west is the Saale-Ilm-Platte .

history

Schöps was first mentioned in a document on February 21, 1293. The existence of the Jägersdorf district is dated as early as November 28, 1228. The first masters of the place were the Lobdeburgers . There used to be numerous mills in Schöps. The oldest existing house in Schöps was built in 1629, restored in the mid-1960s and belongs to Rudolf Pfeiffer. In 1978 Schöps forms a double community with Jägersdorf. In 2001, as part of a village renewal program in Thuringia, the village square in Schöps was also redesigned, with the construction of a fountain.

Schöps benefits from its proximity to the business location Jena . The place itself is characterized by agriculture. The depot of the Agrargenossenschaft eG, formed after the fall of the Wall, is located in Schöps. This cooperative is also a training company for farmers and animal farmers.

The B 88 leads past Schöps, which connects Rudolstadt with Jena via Kahla . Federal motorway 4 is located 5 km to the north . Other roads lead to the villages of Unterbodnitz and Milda . The closest train station is in Rothenstein, 2 km to the north.
