The Scottish Football League First Division was played for the 17th time in 1991/92 as only the second highest Scottish league . It was also the seventeenth edition of the men's second division football in Scotland under the name First Division . In the 1991/92 season, 12 clubs competed against each other in a total of 44 days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The championship was won by FC Dundee , which at the same time secured participation in the Premier Division season 1992/93 . In addition to the Dark Blues , the runner-up Partick Thistle also rose. FC Montrose and Forfar Athletic had to relegate to the Second Division . Gordon Dalziel of the Raith Rovers was the top scorer with 26 goals .
