history

The place was first mentioned in 1306, when Tobias von Bechin bought it after the death of Sigfried Sirotek . In 1376 Mikuláš von Rabštejn bought the property and after his death Velké Bílovice fell to Jobst of Moravia , who sold it to Gerhard (or Heralt) von Kunstadt . From this he inherited it in 1406 Boček II of Podebrady . After his death in 1417, Velké Bílovice belonged to the Liechtenstein family until 1525 . In 1532 Bernhard von Žerotín became lord of Velké Bílovice. Together with his brothers, Friedrich von Zierotin became the owner in 1551 .

Bohemian brothers and Habaners ( Hutterites ) settled in Velké Bílovice in the 16th century . The latter founded a Bruderhof here in 1545 . In 1564, Jan von Žerotín built the Brethren Church. Jan von Žerotín and his wife Kunka von Boskowitz had the medieval fortress rebuilt into a Renaissance castle. Her son Ladislav Velen von Zerotein was the organizer of the Moravian Estates uprising of 1619 and was expropriated after the Battle of White Mountain .

Esther Countess von Meggau and after her Jacob Graf Kuen von Bellassy became the owner of the estate Břeclav including Velké Bílovice. In 1638 Karl Eusebius von Liechtenstein acquired the property and the goods remained with the House of Liechtenstein until 1925 . Johann Wenzel von Liechtenstein had the church re-Catholicized in 1765.

At the beginning of the 20th century, many residents of Bílovice emigrated to Argentina , Canada and the United States .

Velké Bílovice has been a city since 2001.
