Øyvind Skaanes (born May 29, 1968 ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Skaanes had his first international success at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1987 in Asiago . There he won the bronze medal over 30 km. He made his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in February 1989 at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , which he finished in 30th place over 15 km freestyle. At the beginning of the 1989/90 season he got his first classic World Cup points in Soldier Hollow with 13th place over 15 km. This was followed by two top ten placements and thus reached 19th place in the overall World Cup. In addition, he won the season in Vang with the relay and finished second in Örnsköldsvik with the relay. In the following season he came with two top ten placements to 26th place in the overall World Cup. At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1991 in Val di Fiemme , he won the gold medal with the relay. He also achieved 33rd place over 50 km freestyle and 15th place over 30 km classic. In early March 1991 he triumphed in Lahti with the relay. In the 1996/97 season he came in the top ten three times in the World Cup. In Oberstdorf he achieved sixth place over 30 km classic, his best result in the individual World Cup. In March 1997, he took second place with the relay in Falun . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim in 1997 , he came 34th over 50 km classic. He finished the season in 20th place in the overall World Cup, 18th in the Sprint World Cup and 16th in the Long Distance World Cup. At the beginning of his last World Cup season 1997/98 he came in Beitostølen in third place with the relay. In January 1998 he won the classic 10 km at the Continental Cup in Åsarna . He completed his last World Cup race in March 1998 in Oslo , which he finished classically in 28th place over 50 km. At Norwegian championships he won in 1999 with the relay of Strindheim IL and in 1990 over 50 km.
