The 1. FC Saarbrücken is a German football club from the Saarland state capital Saarbruecken . The women's soccer department was created when the women's soccer team of VfR 09 Saarbrücken joined . The first team played a total of 16 years in the Bundesliga and has been in the 2nd Bundesliga since relegation in 2011 . The greatest success of the department in 2008 was the final participation in the DFB Cup .

The first team has been coached by the former 1. FC Saarbrücken player Taifour Diane since 2015 . The second team in the women's football department has played in the Regionalliga Südwest since 2007 .

prehistory

1982–1990: Participation in the German soccer championship

The women's soccer team of VfR 09 Saarbrücken qualified for the German soccer championship for the first time in 1982 . At the German football championship 1982 met in the first round, the round of 16, on TSV Wulsdorf , against whom they prevailed 2-0 after a round trip. In the quarterfinals they lost to SC Klinge Seckach . VfR 09 Saarbrücken is a founding member of the women's Bundesliga . For the 1990/91 season it was divided into the southern relay and took third place behind FSV Frankfurt and TuS 1900 Niederkirchen , thus missing out on qualifying for the final round of the German championship. Also in the two seasons 1991/92 and 1992/93 the Saarbrücken women were the third to miss the qualification for the finals for the German championship. In the 1993/94 season they finished fourth in the southern season of the women's Bundesliga. In contrast, things went better in the 1993/94 DFB Cup . After defeating SV Weiskirchen and SC Siegelbach in the first two rounds . They met VfL Sindelfingen in the round of 16 . After it was 1: 1 after 120 minutes, the Saarbrücken team defeated the Sindelfingen team 6: 5 on penalties. After defeating TuS Ahrbach 4-2 after extra time in the quarter-finals , the team from Saarbrücken was eliminated in the semifinals with 2: 9 against Grün-Weiß Brauweiler .

For the 1997/98 season , the women's football department left VfR 09 Saarbrücken and joined local rivals 1. FC Saarbrücken. In the first season of the single-track women's Bundesliga, the team from Saarbrücken took eighth place and was in the middle of the field. In the following season, 1. FC Saarbrücken achieved its best placement in the single-track women's Bundesliga with seventh place.

While in the women's Bundesliga in the 1999/2000 season with tenth place they just prevented relegation, things went better in the DFB-Pokal 1999/2000 . After they had defeated TuS Ahrbach without a fight in the first round and SV Oberteuringen in the round of 16, the team faced 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in the quarter-finals . The team from Saarbrücken reached the semi-finals with a 3-1 win. There she met the defending champion 1. FFC Frankfurt and was eliminated from the competition due to a 1: 3 defeat.

In the 2000/01 season , 1. FC Saarbrücken was only able to collect nine points and was therefore a relegated athlete. 1. FC Saarbrücken was just as lucky as FFC Heike Rheine and remained in the league because the license was withdrawn from Sportfreunde Siegen and FFC Flaesheim-Hillen withdrew its team. The relegation was only postponed by a year because 1. FC Saarbrücken finished the following season in 12th and last place with only eight points. After the direct re-promotion, the team picked up only one point in the 1-1 draw against SC Freiburg in the following season and relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga , which was newly founded for the 2004/05 season . In addition, 1. FC Saarbrücken went down negatively in the history of the single-track women's Bundesliga . They were the first club to concede more than 100 goals in one season with 115 goals conceded. In the 2004/05 season , the team appeared in the southern season of the 2nd Bundesliga and missed direct promotion behind VfL Sindelfingen in second place.

In the 2005/06 season, the team gambled away the longed-for return to the House of Lords on the last day of the match with a 2-0 defeat at TSV Crailsheim and ended up only in second place behind TSV Crailsheim. After relegation, the team from Saarbrücken was sorted into the southern season of the 2nd Bundesliga. In the first season after relegation, the eighth place clearly missed the return to the first division. In the 2013/14 season they secured third place behind the unbeaten SC Sand and 1. FC Köln . In the following season, the good performance from the previous season could be built on and 1. FC Saarbrücken took fourth place in the table, which was also confirmed in the 2015/16 season .

After only finishing sixth in the 2016/17 season , the team from Saarland finished fourth in the 2017/18 season . With fourth place, the team qualified for the single-track 2nd Bundesliga, which was introduced for the 2018/19 season . In the 2018/19 DFB-Pokal , 1. FC Saarbrücken made it to the quarter-finals for the first time since taking part in the cup final in 2008. The women's team plays their home games in the Kieselhumes stadium, where the Saarland national soccer team has played their home games. With 6,000 seats, the stadium is one of the larger stadiums in the 2nd Bundesliga.
