Bishop Thietmar von Merseburg begins to write a chronicle that will consist of eight books by his death in 1018 . With his chronicle, which covers the events of the years 908 to 1018, he intends to describe “the history of the city of Merseburg” ( Merseburgensis series civitatis ) and the “lives and deeds of the pious kings of Saxony” ( Saxonie regum vitam moresque piorum ).

The election of the Pope in 1012

After the death of Pope Sergius IV on May 12th, Theophylact II of Tusculum came as a layman to the chair of Peter on May 20th or 21st and as Pope took the name Benedict VIII . Consecration of the Bamberg Cathedral
