Aubure (German Altweier ) is a French commune with 360 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé , the canton of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines and the Pays de Ribeauvillé municipality .

Aubure is located at an altitude of 800 m in the Vosges . The municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park . Neighboring municipalities of Aubure are Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines in the north-west and north, Ribeauvillé in the east, Riquewihr in the south-east and Fréland in the south-west and west.

history

Aubure was first mentioned in 1217 as in Alburiis . Around 1300 the place is called Altpur on a map . In the Thirty Years' War destroyed, it found new prosperity through agriculture and medical remedies. To the east of the village lies the Bilstein castle ruins . The castle was built in the 12th century and was destroyed in 1636.

From 1871 to the end of the First World War , Aubure belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Rappoltsweiler in the district of Upper Alsace .
