The 2017/18 Basketball Bundesliga season (officially easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga ) was the 52nd season of the top German division in men's basketball . The regular season started on September 29, 2017 and ended on May 1, 2018 with the 34th and final matchday. The play-off final round of the best eight teams for the German championship, played in the best-of-five mode, lasted until June 16, 2018. After five finals, Bayern Munich became champions .
General
- For the first time, the season took two breaks for national team games, one in November 2017 and one in February 2018.
- Due to the European basketball championship 2017 , as in the previous season, no Champions Cup was played.
- After the relegation of Science City Jena , the rise of Central German BC (immediately after relegation in the 2015/16 season ) and the first-time rise of the Oettinger Rockets , three Central German teams played in the Bundesliga for the first time . At the same time, after Phoenix Hagens was forced to relegate in the preseason for the first time since the Bundesliga was founded, only one club from North Rhine-Westphalia was represented in the league, Telekom Baskets Bonn . The previous year's climber SC Rasta Vechta got down regularly.
- A record number of nine clubs took part in European competitions.
- As in the previous season, all league games were broadcast by Telekom Sport ( live and on-demand ). Sport1 also showed 34 main round games and 14 play-off matches on free TV .
