In 2008 Finland took part in the Summer Olympics for the 22nd time. For the Summer Olympics in Beijing , the Suomen Olympic Committee named a total of 58 athletes (+ 2 reserves). The selection took place in four nomination rounds, which took place on December 19, 2007, April 16, 2008, May 20, 2008 and July 21, 2008. After the Kaleva Games - the Finnish championships - at the beginning of August, there were still a few late nominations in athletics. The standard bearer of the opening ceremony was the shooter Juha Hirvi.
