The Football League Second Division 1949/50 was the 47th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 20, 1949 and ended on May 6, 1950.

Second division champion was Tottenham Hotspur and also rose to second-placed Sheffield Wednesday in the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1950/51, the two first division clubs Manchester City and Birmingham City ranked in the table below . Plymouth Argyle and Bradford Park Avenue had to relegate from the Second Division , with Bradford Park Avenue henceforth having to compete in the North Season Football League Third Division North and Plymouth Argyle in the Football League Third Division South . Instead of the two clubs in the following season 1950/51 Third Division North champion Doncaster Rovers and from the Third Division South the winner Notts County took the vacant positions.
