Younger house Anjou

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The younger house of Anjou (also called House Valois-Anjou ) was a branch line of the House of Valois , which had split off from the main line in 1356 (conferring the title Count of Anjou ). It descends from Louis of France , a younger son of King John II (Jean II), who, in addition to the Anjou line, also made the younger house of Burgundy possible in 1363 .

Count Ludwig von Anjou was adopted in 1380 by Johanna I , Queen of Naples (from the older house of Anjou ) and thus appointed heir, could not enforce his claims in Naples, especially not in the no longer existing Kingdom of Jerusalem , but in the Provence. In the third generation, the younger Anjou family inherited the Duchy of Lorraine , which was lost fifty years later due to a lack of sons.

Remarks

  1. meaning the house of the Lord of Tucé in the city, see [1]
  2. ^ Odo von Thoire and Villars had sold the county of Geneva to Amadeus VIII of Savoy in 1401 . However, his heirs (or potential heirs, since Odo only died between 1413 and 1418) refused to acknowledge the transaction. The dispute dragged on until 1424, when Amadeus VIII also bought the pretenders their rights to the county. Neither is the name of the daughter known as to which of the contenders her husband was.
