Kabanowo ( Russian Кабаново , German  Pelkeninken , Lithuanian Pelkininkai ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Tschernjachowsk in chernyakhovsky district .

Geographical location

Kabanowo is located on the west bank of the Auer stream (Russian: Torfjanka), about 22 kilometers northwest of the Rajon town of Chernyakhovsk (Insterburg) . The place can be reached from Krasnooktjabrskoje (Groß Ponnau) via a road. There is no train connection.

history

Pelkeninken, a small village until 1946 , was founded in the first half of the 17th century. Between 1874 and 1945 the place was incorporated into the administrative district Plibischken (today Russian: Gluschkowo), which belonged to the district of Wehlau in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

As a result of the war, Pelkeninken came to the Soviet Union with northern East Prussia in 1945 . In 1950 the place received the Russian name "Kabanowo" and was assigned to the village soviet Kamenski selski soviet in Chernyakhovsk district . From 2008 to 2015 Kabanowo belonged to the rural municipality of Kamenskoye selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Chernyakhovsk.

Until 1945, Pelkeninken, with its predominantly Protestant population, was integrated into the parish of the Church of Plibischken (today Russian: Gluschkowo), which belonged to the church district of Wehlau (Snamensk) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Kabanowo is located in the catchment area of ​​the newly formed Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Talpaki (Taplacken) , a branch congregation of the Resurrection Church in Kaliningrad (Königsberg) in the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
