Stepnoje ( Russian Степное , German  Purwienen , 1938–1945 Altweiler (Ostpr.) , Lithuanian Purvynai ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Tschernjachowsk in chernyakhovsky district .

There is another place in Chernyakhovsk Raion, Stepnoye , which was formed as the successor of Gaiden .

Geographical location

Stepnoje is located 13 kilometers southeast of the Rajon town of Tschernjachowsk (Insterburg) on the municipal road 27K-095 from the federal road A229 via Wessjolowka (Judtschen / Kanthausen) . The nearest train station is Wessjolowka on the Kaliningrad – Chernyshevskoje railway line (Königsberg – Eydtkuhnen / Eydtkau) - a section of the Prussian Eastern Railway - for onward travel to Lithuania and the Russian heartland.

history

The place once called Darkkemis was a small farming village with numerous individual farmsteads before 1945. Between 1874 and 1945 the village was incorporated into the Judtschen district (1938–1945 "Kanthausen district", Russian: Wessjolowka) and belonged to the Gumbinnen district in the Gumbinnen district of the Prussian province of East Prussia . On June 3, 1938, Purwienen was given the changed name "Altweiler" for political and ideological reasons.

In 1945 the place came to the Soviet Union as a result of the Second World War with northern East Prussia . In 1947 he was given the Russian name "Stepnoje" and was assigned to the village Soviet Krasnopoljanski selski Sowet in Chernyakhovsk Raion at the same time . From 2008 to 2015 Stepnoye belonged to the rural municipality of Svobodnenskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the city district of Chernyakhovsk.
