Sarja ( Russian Заря , German  Groß Wersmeningken , 1938-1946 Großstangenwald , Lithuanian Didieji Versmininkai ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Tschernjachowsk in chernyakhovsky district .

Geographical location

Sarja is located 13 kilometers southeast of the Rajon town of Chernyachovsk (Insterburg) . The place can only be reached by land, for example from Krasnopoljanskoje (Groß Gaudischkehmen / Großgauden) . The next train station is Wessjolowka (Judtschen / Kanthausen) on the Kaliningrad – Chernyshevskoje railway line (Königsberg – Eydtkuhnen / Eydtkau) - a section of the former Prussian Eastern Railway - for onward travel to Lithuania and the Russian heartland.

Groß Wersmeningken until 1938 was first mentioned in a document in 1557. Between 1874 and 1945, the farming village in was District Judtschen (from 1938 "District Kant Hausen", now Russian: Wessjolowka) incorporated and thus belonged to the district Gumbinnen in Administrative district Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia . The Grünwalde district forester also belonged to the rural community of Groß Wersmeningken.

As a result of the war, the village with northern East Prussia came to the Soviet Union in 1945 . In 1947 the place was given the Russian name "Zarya" and was assigned to the village soviet Krasnopoljanski selski Sowet in Chernyakhovsk Raion at the same time . From 2008 to 2015 Zarya belonged to the rural municipality of Svobodnenskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the city district of Chernyakhovsk.

The population of Groß Wersmeningken resp.
