Koschelewo ( Russian Кошелево , German  Kaschelen , 1938–1945 Kasseln , and Patilszen , 1936–1938 Patilschen , 1938–1945 Tilsen , Lithuanian Kašeliai and Patilžė ) is a place in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad located on the Tilse (now Russian: Tylscha) . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Tschernjachowsk in chernyakhovsky district . The Patiszen / Tilsen branch has been abandoned.

Geographical location

Koschelewo is located about 20 kilometers north of the town of Chernyachovsk (Insterburg) and can be reached via secondary roads and country roads from Worotynowka (Szierandszen / Schierandschen , 1938–1946 Schierheide ) and Pokrowskoje (Buttkuhnen , 1938–1946 Tilsental) . The nearest train station is Vishnevoye ( Paballen , 1938–1946 Werfen ) on the Chernyakhovsk – Sovetsk (Insterburg – Tilsit) railway . Until 1945 there was also a rail link via the neighboring town of Moulienen (1938–1946 Moulinen ) on the Insterburg – Kraupischken (1938–1946 Breitenstein ) and Ragnit – Kraupischken lines of the Insterburger Kleinbahnen , both of which are no longer operated today.

Kaschelen (Kasseln)

The village with the former name Kaschelen is located on the western bank of Tilse and is 29 kilometers from the former district town of Tilsit (today Russian: Sowetsk). In 1874 the place was incorporated into the newly established administrative district Moulienen (1938-1946 Moulinen , today Russian: Michailowka), which until 1922 belonged to the district of Ragnit , then to the district of Tilsit-Ragnit in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910 there were 59 inhabitants in Kaschälen . Their number was 56 in 1933 and 47 in 1939.

On June 3, 1938, Kaschelen was renamed "Kasseln". The official confirmation took place on July 16, 1938.

In 1945 the place was assigned to northern East Prussia of the Soviet Union as a result of the Second World War .

Patilszen / Patilschen (Tilsen)

The village with the former name Patilszen or Patilschen is located on the eastern bank of the Tilse . It is 26 kilometers to the former district town of Tilsit (Sovetsk). In 1874 Patilszen was also assigned to the district of Moulienen (1938-1946 Moulinen , today Russian: Michailowka) and belonged to the district of Ragnit , from 1922 to 1945 to the district of Tilsit-Ragnit in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia . 65 inhabitants were registered here in 1910. Their number sank to 57 by 1933 and was 59 in 1939. On September 17, 1936, the name spelling was changed from Patilszen to “Patilschen” and on June 3, 1938, the name was changed to “Tilsen”. In 1945 this place also came to the Soviet Union .

Koschelewo

In 1950 the two places Kaschelen / Kasseln and Patilszen / Tilsen were combined under the Russian name Koschelewo. At the same time Koschelewo was incorporated into the village soviet Kaluschski selski Sowet in Chernyakhovsk district. From 2008 to 2015 the place belonged to the rural municipality Kalushskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Chernyakhovsk.
