The Lawrence County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Missouri . In 2010 , the county had 38,634 residents and a population density of 24.3 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Mount Vernon , which was named after the country home of George Washington in Virginia .

Lawrence County was formed in 1845. It was named after James Lawrence (1781–1813), a naval officer who became famous with the saying: "Don't give up the ship" in the British-American War of 1812 after he was fatally wounded.

According to the 2010 census , there were 38,634 people in 15,043 households in Lawrence County. The population density was 24.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.51 people lived in each of the 15,043 households.
