The Moldovan national team is the selection of the Republic of Moldova . Since independence in 1991, Moldova has never qualified for a football world or European championship final. As part of the USSR and the CIS, Moldova took part in the World Championships from 1958 to 1990 and the European Championships from 1960 to 1992. Moldovan players played no role in the Soviet national team. After the break-up of the Soviet Union into several independent states, Moldova took part in qualifying for the 1996 European Championship for the first time.
In September 2007, Moldova achieved its best position in the FIFA world rankings with 52nd place, currently the team is currently in its worst place with 175th place (as of April 2020).
