Scott County was formed in 1821. It was named after John Scott (1785–1861), the first member of the United States' Congress from Missouri.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census , Scott County had 39,191 people in 15,520 households. The population density was 36.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.48 people lived in each of the 15,520 households.
