The qualification for the opening competition of the 70th Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf took place on December 28, 2021. Here, the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi prevailed in front of Karl Geiger from Germany and the two Norwegians Halvor Egner Granerud and Johann André Forfang tied on points.

The competition, the so-called Christmas jumping, took place on December 29, 2021. Ryoyu Kobayashi was able to prevail just ahead of the two Norwegians Granerud and Robert Johansson . After the first round, Johansson was still ahead, but the longest jump of the competition in the second round ultimately secured the day's victory for the Japanese. Defending champion Kamil Stoch retired and thus lost the chance of another triumph at the Four Hills Tournament.

With Fatih Arda İpcioğlu , a Turkish ski jumper secured World Cup points for the first time.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

GermanyGermany Big Olympic Hill (HS 142)

The qualification for jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen took place on December 31, 2021. Markus Eisenbichler prevailed just before the Oberstdorf winner Ryoyu Kobayashi . Karl Geiger and Jan Hörl followed in the next places . From the six-member "National Group" of Germany, which was not yet in action at the start of the tour, Justin Lisso made it into the competition in 40th place and Felix Hoffmann in 45th place. One of the surprises was that Stefan Kraft failed to qualify.

The competition, the so-called New Year's Jumping , took place on January 1st, 2022. After the first round, Kobayashi was just ahead of Eisenbichler and Marius Lindvik thanks to a jump to 143 m . Co-favorite Granerud made a mistake and lost over 25 points to Kobayashi in the first round. Due to bad wind conditions, among other things, Karl Geiger and Robert Johansson could not show any first-class jumps and ultimately lost over 25 points each to the Japanese. In the second round, the Slovenian Lovro Kos was able to achieve the highest number of points, although Markus Eisenbichler jumped five meters further to 143.5 m. In the end, the unsettled Telemark at Eisenbichler made the difference. Despite a worse second jump, Kobayashi won just under 0.2 points and at the same time increased his lead in the overall standings to over 10 points. As third in the daily standings, Kos jumped on a World Cup podium for the first time in his career.
