Butten ( German : Bütten ) is a French commune with 669 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It is located in the canton of Ingwiller and belongs to the Arrondissement of Saverne .
geography
The village is located in Crooked Alsace , at the transition to the Bitscher Land . The municipality has a share in the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve .
history
There is a mention of the village of Betto , today's Butten, from the 15th century.
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Butten belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Zabern district in the Lower Alsace district .
