The Boltenmoor nature reserve is located in the city of Greven in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends southeast of the core city of Greven and northeast of the Gittrup peasantry , which belongs to the Gelmer district of Münster , directly on the east flowing Dortmund-Ems Canal . The state road L 588 runs along the northern edge of the area and the B 481 runs along the western edge . The Ems flows south . To the northwest extends the approximately 61 hectare nature reserve (NSG) Bockholter Berge and to the southwest the 1.6 hectare NSG Dabeckskamp .

Since 1950, a 33.86 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Greven under the identification number ST-040. The area was placed under protection

  • for the maintenance and development of a bog and inland dune area with the habitat types bog, bog forest, sand heath, sand dry grassland and oak forest as part of a biotope network of national importance and
  • for the preservation, self-development and promotion as well as for the restoration of the communities and biotopes of typical, rare and endangered animal and plant species.
