Nangis is a French municipality with 8710 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Provins and is the administrative seat of the canton of Nangis .
Nangis is located in the center of the Brie between the Seine and Marne rivers , about 70 kilometers from Paris .
history
Nangis was raised to the rank of city by King Francis I in 1544 .
On February 17, 1814, a Russian army was defeated here by François-Etienne Kellermann and Jean-Baptiste Girard .
