The Football League Second Division 1958/59 was the 56th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 23, 1958 and ended on April 30, 1959.

Sheffield Wednesday became second division champions and the second-placed Fulham FC also rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1959/60, the two first division clubs Aston Villa and Portsmouth FC, ranked in the table below, took the places. Grimsby Town and Barnsley FC had to relegate from the Second Division to the Football League Third Division . Instead of the two clubs, the third division champions Plymouth Argyle and second-placed Hull City took the vacant positions in the following season 1959/60 .
