The BildBet German Masters 2022 was a snooker tournament of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2021/22 season . From January 26th to 30th, the professional players competed in Berlin . It was the 12th Masters since 2011 and with the exception of the previous year, when almost all tournaments were held in Milton Keynes , England due to COVID-19 , the Tempodrom was the venue in the German capital. It was the first tournament to be held outside the UK following the easing of the pandemic lockdown.

Thailand 's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh managed a maximum break in his opening match in qualifying . For himself it was the third 147-point break and in the history of the German Masters it was the 10th "perfect break".

Most recently, Judd Trump had won the German Masters twice in a row. In 2022, however, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Zhao Xintong , who eventually reached the final where he faced Yan Bingtao . It was the second time, since the 2013 Shanghai Masters , that two players from the People's Republic of China had contested the final of a professional tournament. Zhao, who won his debut tournament two months earlier with the UK Championship , defeated Yan 9-0. There had only been two previous "whitewashes" in snooker history in a ranking tournament in a final over two sessions.

There was no change in prize money compared to the previous year.

For the third time, the tournament was also part of BetVictor's "European Series". The betting operator is the name sponsor for eight tournaments, the German Masters was the fifth tournament. The top performer across all tournaments will receive an additional £ 150,000 .

On Wednesday, January 26th, the main tournament in Berlin started with the 32 players who had survived the two qualifying rounds in October 2021.

As in the qualification, the Best of 9 mode (5 winning frames) applied for the first three rounds . In the semi-finals, the first to win 6 frames (Best of 11), in the final, the first to win 9 frames (Best of 17).

qualification

For the first time, qualification for a ranking tournament was held in Cannock , north of Birmingham . From October 18th to 26th, 2021, two qualifying rounds were played at the Chase Leisure Center until the 32 players were determined, who will compete in Berlin at the end of January 2022. To win, each player needed 5 frames in each game ( Best of 9 mode ).
