Kennedy is an Anglicized name of Gaelic origin. There are different theories according to either the Anglicized form of Ó Ceannéidigh ('son of Ceannéidigh'; Ceannéidigh in turn means 'ugly head') or Ó Cinnéide. Variants of the name are O'Kennedy and Kennedie.
