Lhota

Lhota (Old Czech and Slovak: Lehota , derived from lhůta - grace period ) is one of the most common place names in the Czech Republic .

Emergence

These are local foundations of the Slavic regional expansion in the 12th-14th centuries. Century, which were exempt from the payment of taxes and compulsory labor for a limited period of time (see also " Újezd " in the same areas). The oldest mention was made in 1199 for the present-day village of Nový Jiří in Eastern Bohemia, and in Moravia for Panská Lhota . In Bohemia there are 322 settlements called Lhota or Lhotka , in Moravia 130. The distribution area extends over Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia to north of Wroclaw in Poland. There the name form Lgota was common. In Slovakia the place name as Lehota is also common. Sometimes the place name occurs in groups. In the earlier districts of Jilemnice and Pelhřimov they make up one tenth of the place names.

In the German settlement areas the name was Germanized into Welhotten , Ölhütten , Ellgoth or similar, in Silesia the Polish form of the name Ligota is used today.

The Sjezd Lhot a Lehot has been held annually since 1981, bringing together residents of the so-called localities (Lhota and Lehota) from Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
