Orival is located in the south of the historic Angoumois province , about 38 kilometers south-southwest of Angoulême . Orival is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Montboyer in the north, Courlac in the north and northeast, Rouffiac in the east and southeast, Saint-Quentin-de-Chalais in the south and Chalais in the west and southwest.
