history

The Port Huron Flags were founded in 1962 as a franchise of the International Hockey League . In the 1965/66 season, the flags won the Turner Cup , the championship of the IHL, for the first time in their club history . The club was able to repeat this success in 1971. In the same year the team was renamed Port Huron Wings. This renaming was the consequence of the partnership with the Detroit Red Wings from the National Hockey League . From now on, the Port Huron Wings were the Red Wings farm team . Under the new name, the Wings were able to defend the title from the previous season and win the Turner Cup for the third time.

After the termination of the partnership with the Detroit Red Wings after the 1973/74 season, the club renamed itself to Port Huron Flags. The flags existed until 1981 and were able to occupy during this time in 1979 with 95 points both first place in the North Division and the main round of the IHL. During the 1980/81 season they were the Buffalo Sabers' farm team . In the summer of 1981 the Port Huron flags were disbanded.
