Robertson County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Springfield .

The county is located in northern Tennessee, bordering Kentucky and covers an area of 1,235 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Todd County, Kentucky, Logan County, Kentucky, Simpson County, Kentucky, Sumner County , Davidson County , Cheatham County, and Montgomery Counties .

history
Robertson County was formed on April 9, 1796 as the original county from the Tennessee Territory. It was named after James Robertson , a companion of Daniel Boone on his third expedition, co-founder of the Watauga settlement in the Watauga River Valley , co-founder of Fort Nashborough from which later the now known Nashville emerged and later politician of Tennessee.

According to the 2000 census , Robertson County had 54,433 people in 19,906 households and 15,447 families. The population density was 44 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.13 percent white, 8.62 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.31 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.83 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.80 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.66 percent of the population.
Of the 19,906 households, 37.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 61.9 percent were married couples living together, 11.2 percent were single mothers, and 22.4 percent were non-families. 18.6 percent were single households and 7.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.71 and the average household size was 3.06 people.
26.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.5 percent between 18 and 24, 31.4 percent between 25 and 44, 22.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.8 percent were older than 65. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 95.7 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 43,174 , and the median income for a family is $ 49,412. Males had a median income of $ 34,895 versus $ 24,086 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,054. 6.4 percent of families and 9.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
