Fonte Nuova is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome in the Italian region of Lazio with 33,521 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 23 kilometers northeast of Rome .

geography

Fonte Nuova is located in the hill country on the northeastern outskirts of Rome. The municipality consists of the two districts of Tor Lupara , which extends along Via Nomentana , and Santa Lucia on Via Palombarese . The Nomentum nature reserve is defined between these two locations. Numerous remains of ancient Villae Rusticae have been found in the municipality .

The neighboring municipalities are: Mentana , Monterotondo , Guidonia Montecelio , Rome and Sant'Angelo Romano .

history

Fonte Nuova was formed on October 15, 2001 after a referendum from the districts of Tor Lupara di Mentana and Santa Lucia di Mentana , which were separated from the municipality of Mentana , and from Tor Lupara di Guidonia Montecelio , which was separated from Guidonia Montecelio . Both districts only emerged in the last 50 years.
