This discography gives an overview of the albums and singles published by the Swedish pop group ABBA and their chart positions as well as other publications.
During her active time between 1972 and 1982, ABBA released eight studio albums and four compilations . According to their music label Universal Music , the band has sold around 400 million records to date, making them one of the performers with the highest number of records sold worldwide . In Germany alone, over 11.9 million ABBA records have been sold to date; This means that the group is one of the performers with the highest number of records sold in Germany . The band's most successful album is ABBA Gold - Greatest Hits from 1992 with over 31 million copies sold, which is also one of the world's best-selling albums and, with 2.5 million pieces, one of the best-selling music albums in Germany . In addition, ten more of her albums achieved platinum status in Germany.
To date, ABBA has topped the German charts a total of 16 times, the Austrian top six times and the Swiss single and album charts eight times.
Albums
Starting in 1973, ABBA have produced a total of eight studio albums and at least 14 compilations during their ten-year existence . In 1986 and 2014 two live albums were released. After the band ended, countless other compilations were released. The eight studio albums already varied in the individual countries partly in terms of title selection and release date. For example, one of ABBA's most successful Fernando hits was initially only released on the studio album " Arrival " in the country version for Australia and New Zealand . In addition - z. Sometimes with license approval from other record companies (e.g. Polydor ) - various albums produced only for regional markets, some of which were recorded in the corresponding national language (e.g. " Gracias por la música ", 1980, Polar Music ) and others when country-specific compilations were published (e.g. "A as in ABBA", 1981, Polydor).
After separating from ABBA, a large number of other albums were released. Most of the ABBA albums have also been released on newer sound carriers such as audio CD , MiniDisc (MD), DVD or Blu-ray in revised sound quality. That is why there is now a large number of best-of albums , compilations, promotional and import albums.
The following tables and lists are intended on the one hand to give an overview of the sound carriers that have been released by the band and on the other hand to provide an overview of the chart positions of these sound carriers. All albums are shown that have reached a chart position in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA. In addition, where available, the placements in ABBA's home country Sweden and neighboring Norway are given. In the comment column it is indicated in which other countries the albums and singles reached number one .

Singles
The following table is intended to give an overview of the chart positions of the ABBA singles. All singles are shown, including B-sides if possible , that have reached a chart position in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA. In addition, the chart positions in ABBA's home country Sweden and the neighboring country Norway are given. In the Notes column of the table, it is also indicated in which other countries the singles reached number one in the charts .
In the "Release" column, all international single releases are generally listed, with the respective B-side in the Notes column . If there is no international release, regional releases are given instead, provided they have reached chart positions. Both international singles with special versions or other B-sides in certain countries, as well as singles who were only able to achieve a chart position in a country that is not listed in the table below, can be found in the section More Singles .
The single titles Fernando (1976), Summer Night City (1978), Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (1979), The Day Before You Came (1982) and Under Attack (1982) did not originally appear on the studio albums in Germany, but were initially only released on the interim "greatest hits" albums. The same applies to pieces such as Crazy World (1975), Happy Hawaii (1976), Elaine (1980), You Owe Me One (1982) or Cassandra (1982). These appeared over time as the B-side of various ABBA singles. These ABBA songs and other bonus tracks are included on the CD versions of the studio albums that were subsequently released.

ABBA songs in a long-term chart list
In the television program Die ultimative Chartshow - a music show concept by the television broadcaster RTL , the individual thematic seasons of which are moderated by Oliver Geissen - the most successful 2000 hits of the past 30 years in Germany were presented in 2003. These songs were determined on the basis of their respective placements in the weekly chart lists since 1972. In the rating system chosen for this long-term chart list, the pop group ABBA was the most successful band in the entire evaluation period and was able to place itself in the list of the most successful 2000 songs with a total of 21 songs. In total, ABBA and their songs were in first place for 33 weeks and in the “Top 10” for 236 weeks.

ABBA music in advertising
Gard hair care
In the early 1980s, the Colgate-Palmolive company created a promotional song to the melody of the ABBA song "Move On", which was released on ABBA - The Album in 1977 , to realign the advertising concept for the hair care brand Gard Germany became.
Text excerpts from the promotional song:
Beautiful hair has been given to you, let it live with Gard.
Give him love, give him care, consider, take Gard.
or:
Feel the creamy, mild care, ...
Don't miss a day, let us see you with Gard.
Beautiful hair is given to you,
come and show it, let it live,
and you will feel good with Gard.
In a later parody of this commercial by comedian Otto Waalkes , the song read: "You have greasy hair, let it stick with curd!"
Odol Mouthwash As early as the mid-1970s, a commercial for the mouthwash brand Odol ran for a short time with the promotional song “Daily Odol, daily freshness” to the melody of the first ABBA song “People Need Love”.
National The Japanese-Australian electrical appliance manufacturer National developed an extensive advertising campaign in 1976 in which the four Swedes were used as testimonials. The campaign featured five different commercials with a promotional song to the tune of Fernando . The used line of text "slightly ahead of our time" (German: "a little bit ahead of our time") was also the slogan .
Here is a text excerpt from the promotional song:
There are many things we share with you
Together you
And National
We grow closer like the sand and seas
Like flowers and trees
And National
...
Together we can make the future shine
Slightly ahead of our time
It's National
