Beaulieu is a French commune in the Ardèche department with 498 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The inhabitants of the village are called Belliloquois and Belliloquoises .
geography
Beaulieu is located in the wide alluvial valley of the Chassezac , about 3 km from the river in the extreme south of the department. The Tanargue massif connects to the west of the village. Neighboring communities are Grospierres and Berrias-et-Casteljau . The next largest city is Alès , 29 km to the southwest. The former train station on the discontinued Vogüé - Robiac-Rochessadoule line has been converted into a restaurant.
history
Beaulieu was initially under the feudal rule of the Grospierres family, then the village was handed over to the Joyeuses and, towards the end of the Middle Ages, to the Gascon family. Finds of Gallo-Roman clay vessels indicate that the area was already settled in antiquity.

Attractions
A popular destination is the dolmen in the Bois des Roches. Beaulieu also has a 19th century church, the Chapel des Divols, also known as Saint-Régis , and the ruins of the old Saint-Maurice monastery .
The place is also a popular destination for nature lovers who want to visit the Chassezac and Tanargue gorges. Also in the municipality are the rocks of Carabasse and the Peyrol de Beaulieu , a crater in the shape of a well and a diameter of 20 meters.
