Berlin International Film Festival 1984

The 1984 Berlin International Film Festival began on February 17 and ended on February 28, 1984 .

The festival had invited the Soviet film Farewell to Matjora by Elem Klimov as the opening film this year , but the Soviet Film Association banned it from being shown abroad. The film was ultimately shown as a special screening at the 1987 Berlinale . The new opening film was the dance film Le Bal - The Dance Palace by Ettore Scola .
