route

The race was planned in four stages. Stage suggestions could be submitted in advance on the Deutschland Tour website.

The first stage of the Deutschland Tour 2021 started in Stralsund , led through flat terrain and ended in Schwerin , the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The second stage ran over a hilly profile between Sangerhausen ( Saxony-Anhalt ) and Ilmenau ( Thuringia ), overcoming the Kulpenberg , passing the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial and driving through Weimar . The next stage went over undulating terrain through the Thuringian Forest and Franconia to Erlangen . The fourth stage ran from Erlangen across Franconian Switzerland and ended in Nuremberg , where the riders had to climb around 2000 meters in altitude; the demanding final stage had around 15 climbs with gradients of up to 20 percent.

Regulations

  • The leader of the overall standings wears the red jersey. As always in international stage races, the overall ranking is the result of adding up the times driven, minus 10, 6 and 4 seconds bonuses for the first three of each stage. In addition, there is a bonus rating (not to be confused with the intermediate sprints) at each stage of 3, 2 and 1 second time bonuses.
  • The leader in the points classification wears the green jersey. The point evaluation results from the addition of the points at the finish of each stage (15, 12, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points) two intermediate sprints (5, 3 and 1 points) - not to confuse it with the bonus rating.
  • The leader in the mountain classification wears the blue jersey. The mountain rating results from the addition of the 3, 2 and 1 points that are awarded for the first of the crossing on a total of nine climbs.
  • The junior ranking of drivers born after January 1st, 1996 is determined on the basis of the overall ranking.
  • The team ranking results from the addition of the three best times of the drivers of a team on each stage.
  • At each stage, a jury recognized a driver as the most combative driver.
