Fort Boyard is a German game show that has been broadcast at irregular intervals by various TV stations in the ProSiebenSat.1 Group since December 1990 . It is an offshoot of the French television program of the same name , which has also been produced since 1990.

So far, a total of four seasons have been produced on the French fortress of the same name, Fort Boyard .

In September 2018, 4 episodes of the fourth edition or fifth season of the show were broadcast on Sat.1. The station itself counted this as the 2nd season.

concept

During the broadcast, a group of candidates in the fort has to complete a series of tasks within a specified time that depend on the skill or strength or endurance of the candidates. The task is successfully completed if the respective candidate manages to obtain a key within the given time. The tasks usually have to be completed in individual cells of the fort. In this case, it is part of the task that the candidate leaves the cell with the key within the given time. If he does not manage to leave the cell before the time runs out (at least without the key to be obtained), he will be locked in the room until he can be freed by the other candidates. In addition, there are also tasks in the inner courtyard or the outside area of the fort where a candidate cannot be locked up. With every key won, the candidates have more time in the big final. In the final game, the candidate groups can collect coins within the time they have earned. These are later weighed and converted into an amount of money that the candidates have then earned. The results are displayed on a specially made digital display board.

Production and broadcast

On July 2, 2010, the television station kabel eins announced that it would produce a new edition of the game show. Andrea Kaiser and Alexander Wesselsky were announced as moderators . The broadcaster ordered nine episodes, which the German production company Tresor TV once again produced in cooperation with the French production company Adventure Line Productions in summer 2010.

This new edition has a different concept compared to the previous editions. For the first time, two teams of three celebrities duel each episode. The team with the highest amount of money won wins the episode and this amount is then donated. Furthermore, the puzzles in the tower are no longer applicable for the first time.

The broadcast started on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 8:15 pm and was seen by a total of 2.05 million viewers. However, only 0.73 million viewers saw the last episode on March 8, 2011.

An average of 1.11 million viewers saw the third edition on kabel eins. The market share of the total audience was a weak 3.3 percent. In the target group relevant for advertising, the season reached an average of 0.83 million viewers and 6.4 percent.

Despite the values that are above the average for Kabel eins, no further season was ordered because the ratings have always fallen from episode to episode and due to the comparatively high production costs.

Production and broadcast

At the Screenforce Days on June 21, 2018, the television station Sat.1 announced that a new edition of the game show was being produced. In addition, Matthias Killing was announced as the presenter of the show. One month later, on July 27, 2018, the broadcaster announced that the four episodes produced by Banijay Productions Germany and Adventure Line Productions would be broadcast on Wednesdays at 8:15 p.m. from September 5, 2018. The first episode on September 5th was seen by a total of 1.45 million viewers.

For the first time, the episodes are around 90 minutes long. Furthermore, there is again only a team of five celebrities. This season is, in contrast to all previous broadcasts on German television, most closely based on the French original. For the first time, the international logo of the show and the pieces of music currently used in the French version, including the longstanding theme music, are used.
